Hello, we’re the Smiths!

There are actually 5 of us; Daron, Ann and 3 kids. We started our journey into natural living years ago. We were becoming more concerned with the food that we were purchasing from the grocery stores, specifically meats, and where it was coming from, how it was processed and how it was treated prior to processing.

Now, I (Ann) have never really been a big meat eater, but my husband and kids love meat, and we thought we could give raising our own meat(s) a try.

Our first purchase for our newly minted “farm” were 6 laying pullets of various breeds. Daron and I thought the chicks would be a cute Easter gift for the kids, and eventually we would start getting eggs from the laying hens.

At the time, we were living in an older home on a 1 acre plot of land, which isn’t a lot for a farm, but we really wanted to raise meat chickens. We found an ad for someone local who was selling 6 Cornish Cross broilers, and we jumped at the chance to get these chickens.

As the saying goes, “the rest is history”, as those 6 original layers turned into many more chickens, both layers and Cornish Cross broilers, using the “chicken math”! We now reside on almost 15 acres of land, and have almost 75 resident farm animals. The “chicken math” works with other animals too, just in case you were wondering!

We have expanded our little family farm into a full fledged farm business, selling meat/broiler chickens every season to a growing number of customers, who all care about where their food comes from.

We hope that by sharing our story and daily life, we can inspire and maybe even help you to achieve your natural living goals.
