Equipment

  • Instant Pot 8 Quart

Ingredients

  • 1 lb of hamburger
  • 1-1.5 c peas
  • 1 medium onion – diced finely
  • 1 c grated cheddar cheese
  • 1-2 lbs. potatoes
  • 1/2 c milk
  • 1 stick butter
  • Salt/pepper/smoked paprika/onion powder

Instructions

  • Brown the hamburger in a skillet
  • Once the burger is browned add diced onion to the skillet and cook until onion is tender
  • Add peas to skillet along with spices, salt and pepper
  • Wash your potatoes and peel them if you like
  • Cook the potatoes your preferred way (I use an Instant Pot to steam them, they are perfect every time)
  • While potatoes are cooking gently heat milk & butter in a small saucepan until butter is melted
  • When potatoes are fully cooked, drain and place them back into the hot pot
  • To the potatoes add the milk & butter mixture along with some salt & pepper to taste
  • Mash the potatoes in your normal way (my guy doesn't mind lumps so I hand mash)

Assemble:

  • ~ Place the meat mixture in the bottomo of a 9×13 casserole dish
  • ~ Add 1/2c grated cheddar cheese spreading evenly over the beef mixture
  • ~ Spread mashed potatoes oer the meat/cheese mixture making sure everything is covered by the potatoes
  • ~ Top with the remaining 1/2c grated cheddar cheese
  • ~ Place casserole in a 350* oven for 12-15min or until completely heated through and cheese is melted and bubbly
  • * Allow to stand for 5min to settle and enjoy!

Notes

* You may need to add a little water to the meat mixture to make it a juicier sauce depending on how you like it
* Sub out the peas for any of your favorite vegetables
